DURAN® baffled flask, GL 45, without membrane closure and pouring ring, 1000 ml When cultivating microorganisms in Erlenmeyer flasks on a shaking tray, the oxygen input is often the limiting factor for cell growth. When using DURAN® Erlenmeyer flasks on a shaker, a liquid crescent forms due to the movement. The size of the crescent depends on the speed of the tray and the shaking diameter. The larger the surface area of the contents, the larger the gas exchange area and thus the possible oxygen input. However, the speed and the associated oxygen input can only be increased to a limited extent. The new DURAN® baffle flask with four baffles at the bottom interrupts the laminar flow and creates a turbulent flow. The surface area of the liquid and the gas exchange area are increased, which increases the oxygen input. Laboratory tests have shown that the oxygen input through the baffles is doubled compared to a standard DURAN® Erlenmeyer flask. Due to the completely automated and machine production, the Erlenmeyer flasks with baffles from DWK Life Sciences are geometrically reproducible. The wall thickness of the flasks has been increased to achieve excellent mechanical stability and to ensure a long product life. The special manufacturing process makes it possible to produce the product completely threaded in a two-step process. The flasks can thus be closed with the proven membrane closure of DWK Life Sciences. This enables a more reproducible gas exchange compared to other closure options such as sealing with cotton wool.
