DURAN® GL 25 Membrane Cap, PP, blue DURAN® Original GL laboratory bottles with screw cap are ideal containers for sterilisation and storage of media or buffer solutions. However, it is strongly recommended that caps are only screwed on loosely for the autoclaving cycle. The heating time is reduced if the steam can penetrate the bottle contents more easily. Loosely fitted caps also reduce the risk of breakage due to pressure build-up in the bottle, which can reach up to 400 kPa (absolute). In addition, if the caps are screwed on tightly immediately after autoclaving, a vacuum caused by steam cooling will occur. This can lead to bottle breakage and is therefore essential to consider, especially with larger bottles. To overcome these limitations, the vent screw caps with ePTFE membrane have been developed. The screw cap can be tightly closed as the membrane allows automatic sterile gas exchange and thus safe pressure equalisation during the autoclaving cycle, while ensuring the sterility of the bottle contents.
