DURAN® YOUTILITY®® membrane cap, GL 45 DURAN® YOUTILITY® laboratory bottles with screw cap are ideal containers for sterilising and storing media or buffer solutions. However, it is strongly recommended that caps are only loosely screwed on for the autoclaving cycle. The heating time is reduced if the steam can penetrate the bottle contents more easily. Loosely fitted caps also reduce the risk of breakage due to pressure build-up in the bottle, which can reach up to 400 kPa (absolute). In addition, if the caps are screwed on tightly immediately after autoclaving, a vacuum caused by steam cooling will occur. This can lead to bottle breakage and is therefore essential to consider, especially with larger bottles*. To overcome these limitations, the vent screw caps with ePTFE membrane have been developed. The screw cap can be tightly closed as the membrane allows automatic sterile gas exchange and thus safe pressure equalisation during the autoclaving cycle, while ensuring the sterility of the bottle contents. Special features and advantages: Pressure equalisation during steam sterilisation The microporous structure of the membrane made of ePTFE allows sterile gas exchange in two directions, but prevents the penetration of liquids or solids and the bottle contents remain sterile Increased gas exchange rate due to thin 0.2-? m membrane made of ePTFE, combined with larger vents The PTFE membrane and its polypropylene mesh backing are ultrasonically welded together to form a durable seal Cost-effective, as the closures can be reused several times (Replacement is recommended after 3 to 5 autoclaving cycles, or if the membrane is damaged or contaminated) Polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) membrane (complies with USP 121 °C Class VI) with polypropylene backing Application: Pressure equalisation during steam sterilisation/autoclaving of media or buffers, Sterile gas exchange for aerobic microorganism, shake and suspension cell cultures, Autoclaving of media and buffer solutions, Short-term storage of sterilised media, Storage of gas-forming materials DURAN® YOUTILITY® GL 45 Screw Cap Membrane Vented.
